BACKUP
Selecting data for backup (creating a definition)
- To create a backup definition select the New button.
Enter a name for the backup definition and click OK.
Before any files can be backed up they must first be selected from the directory structure in the right hand window:
To navigate through the directory structure, left click on the "+" signs next to a drive, directory or folder to expand it or left click on the minus "-" signs to contract it.
To select an entire drive, directory or folder for backup, left click the box beside it. A tick will appear within the box and the icon representing the drive, directory or folder (depending on the selection) will change colour signifying that it is now designated to be backed up.
Note: To indicate that all elements within a drive, directory or folder have been selected for backup, the check boxes will appear to be greyed out.
- To select an individual file, left click on the box beside it. A tick will appear within the box and the icon representing the file will change colour signifying that it is now designated to be backed up.
- To select multiple drives, directories, folders or files, follow the instructions in 3 & 4 above, repeating as necessary until all required data has been selected.
- To cancel a selection, left click in the box to remove the tick and the icon will return to its original colour.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
- If you wish to backup your email files using Depositit (Outlook and Outlook Express), please create a separate definition and follow the advice here.
- If you wish to backup up large databases, please create a separate definition and follow the advice here.
- Do not backup your entire hard drive. Depositit recommend that you only backup your critical 'data files' (My Documents folder, emails, databases, digital images) and not your program or application files.
