Scheduling a backup
The computer must be switched on in order for the scheduled backup to run however the Depositit software DOES NOT HAVE TO BE OPEN.
Depositit works in the background so you will not necessarily notice any activity unless you open the software and click on the Backup Status option.
- To schedule a backup, first create your defintion and select the files required.
Set the time and frequency of your backups by selecting your options from the scheduler located at the bottom of the backup window. (For further information see table below)
The following fields are available for scheduling your backups:
| Start time and date | Adjust the time and date for the scheduled backup to occur. Options include: hours, minutes, days, date and month. |
| Frequency | States the rate of recurrence associated with the backup. Options include: hourly, daily, weekly, monthly. |
| Backup cycle | Refers to historical versions to be stored. Default is 30. Can be reduced to 1 or increased to 999. TIP: When backing up email or databases reduce to between 1 and 7. |
| Active | Sets whether the status of a backup definition is due to occur as scheduled Options include: on or off. A tick shows it is on. |
The above process describes how to carry out a SCHEDULED backup, to carry out a MANUAL backup follow this process:
- Select the definition you wish to backup.
- Select the Backup Now icon from the toolbar or select File > Backup Now from the menu.
Note: If you are saving more than one definition, Depositit automatically schedules them to take place at different times so there are no conflicts. If you override the default time set by Depositit with your own, please ensure that they are still scheduled to back up at different times.
