Restoring MS Outlook Emails, Address Book and Calendar

When you need to restore your Microsoft personal folder .pst file from Depositit back to your computer or to a new/second machine you should follow these instructions.

Unless you have backed up your calendar, address book and emails separately you will need to restore all of them in order to restore any of them (i.e if you only need your address book you may need to restore your Outlook information in order to get this).

  1. Open the Depositit software
  2. Click on the "restore" tab
  3. Enter your Depositit account password
  4. Click the "+" sign next to your outlook definition and all backups will be revealed
  5. Left click on the date you wish to restore so it is highlighted
  6. Your Drive will appear on the right hand pane, click on the '+' signs until you reach your .pst file/s and place a tick in the box next to those you wish to restore
  7. Click "original location" if you would like the file to be restored to the same area as where you backed it up from or "new location" (i.e desktop) if you want to save it to a different area on your computer

NOTE: Clicking "original location" means the data from Depositit will overwrite anything in that original location. Selecting "New location" allows you to save to your desktop and work with the file from there (you should select 'new location' when restoring to a new machine).

Once your .pst file has been restored to your machine you will need to import this file back into your Microsoft Outlook program. To do this, follow these instructions:

  1. Open Outlook
  2. Click "file" in the upper left hand corner
  3. In file, click "import and export"
  4. Chose " import from another program or file"
  5. Click "next"
  6. Chose "personal folder file (.pst)
  7. Click "next"
  8. By clicking browse you can check that the path to your restored .pst file is correct in the path box and you amend this as appropriate
  9. In the options, tick "replace duplicates with items imported"
  10. Click "next"
  11. In the following window you will be asked to select the folder to import from. You should: Highlight "personal folders", tick "include subfolders" and tick "import items into the same folder in:" personal folder
  12. Click "finish"

Your .pst file will be restored and outlook will have the data that you backed up.
