RESTORE
Restoring data
Your data is safely stored and available for easy retrieval as and when required.
- Open the Depositit software by going to Start > Programs > Depositit > Backup
and Restore.
Alternatively you can double click the Depositit padlock icon on your desktop.
- Left click on the RESTORE tab.
- Enter your password and click OK. The password is the one you setup during your Depositit account registration. If it is just yourself or trusted sources using your computer then you can take this password off by selecting "Password required for restore" from the Options menu.
- The main restore screen is split into 2 panes.
- The left hand window contains a list of definitions you have saved with Depositit.
The silver padlock represents the definition name and when you click on the "+" signs the orange padlocks represent the backup cycles. Each definition could contain a number of backup cycles depending on the options originally selected.
If this window is empty it means that nothing is backed up to Depositit.
- Left click on the date of the definition or backup cycle that you wish to restore so it is highlighted.
- You will see your Drive/s appear on the right hand pane and can now click on the "+" signs to find the information you wish to restore.
- Once you have found the information, left click inside the box so it becomes ticked.
The data is now ready to be restored to either the original location where it was backed up from or to a new location to be selected on your computer or server.
- Select to restore either to the original or a new location by left clicking on the relevant button at the bottom of the restore screen.
- If the original location is selected, the data will be restored to the original location.
- If a new location is selected, a dialogue box will appear providing options as to where to locate the restored data. Select this by browsing or typing the new location in the box. Click OK to confirm this selection and the data will be restored to the new location.
Note. Prior to restoring data, you may need to click the refresh button to update the data available for restore. This may start your Internet connection so as to connect to Depositit and gather the current information.
Selecting data for restore
Before any files can be restored, they must first be selected. To select files:
- Go to the directory structure in the right hand pane of the restore window. This represents
a view of the data presently backed up within the selected backup definition or cycle.
Note: to update this information from the server, you will need to be connected to the Internet. Depositit will automatically connect and retrieve the information required.
- To navigate through the directory structure, left click on the plus "+" box next to a drive, directory or folder to expand it or conversely left click on the minus "-" box to contract it.
- To select an entire drive, directory or folder to restore, left click the box beside it. A
tick will appear within the box and the icon representing the drive, directory or folder (depending on the selection)
will change colour signifying that it is now designated to be restored.
Note: To indicate that all elements within a drive, directory or folder have been selected for restore, the check boxes will appear to be greyed out.
- To select an individual file, left click on the box beside it. A tick will appear within the box and the icon representing the file will change colour signifying that it is now designated to be restored.
- To select multiple drives, directories, folders or files, follow the instructions in 3 & 4 above, repeating as necessary until all required data has been selected.
- To cancel a selection, click on the check box next to the selected option. The tick will be removed and the icon will return to its original colour.
- You are now ready to commence restoring your data as described in restoring data.
Finding files for restore
If you cannot find a particular file you wish to restore, you can use the Find facility, which is similar to other Windows based software. To locate a file:
- Select the Find Button.
- Enter as much of the filename as you can remember and click Find Now.
- If the file you were looking for appears in the list then select it and select to restore to either original or new location as described in selecting data to restore.
- If the file you were looking for does not appear in the list then refine your search and try step 2 again.
