Restoring data

Once Depositit has been re-installed onto your new machine you can restore any of your files.

For more information on restoring your data please see restoring data.

Once your information is back on your new machine you will need to set up and schedule your definitions again in order to backup your files.

Re-setting backup definitions

If your files are located in exactly the same area as before, you should set up the same definition name and choose the same information and file paths for backup - this way the definition will precisely match what we already have on our servers you will not need to backup all your files again (you can see the exact name and view the backup path of your definitions by looking in the 'restore' area on your Depositit software).

However, if you have changed your username for the new machine or the files you need to backup are being stored in a different location than before, you will need to set up a completely new definitions and upload your information again, in which case:

  1. You must name your new definition differently to what you used before
  2. When you upload your information again this may cause your account to upgrade

In order to deal with and/or prevent your account upgrading you can delete the old information stored with Depositit BUT only do this if you have a second backup copy of your information available. NEVER delete information if you need to restore it, as once deleted it will be gone from our servers forever.

Should you choose to delete your old definitions after you have set up new ones (and uploaded your new files), let us know if your storage has reduced back down and we will credit your account the upgrade costs (less £25 admin charge).

For information on how to delete information from Depositit click here.

"As a one-man Internet marketer my main fear has always been the loss of PC data - which would effectively put me out of business. I need to be 100%, not 99%, confident that I can restore my system in the case of a disaster."
