Depositit - Ultimate Data Protection
Compatible with

DEPOSITIT AND FIREWALLS

In most cases Depositit will work through your firewall without any issues or need for you to do anything, however if you do experience an issue that you feel may be firewall related we recommend that you first check your client log to see what error message is appearing.

If you are getting this error message:

"cannot connect to rmi registry 44400, connection refused to host"

This means your firewall is blocking Depositit from backing up over the Internet.

If a firewall is present it must allow outgoing TCP connections to ports in the range 44400-44408 and 44450.

The Depositit service (process) is called javaw.exeand this should be allowed.

Once allowed through your firewall, Depositit should run without any issues. If you keep getting this error message please contact your firewall provider for assistance.

Microsoft ISA server and firewall access

ISA servers contain extremely secure firewalls and to allow Depositit to work through it they need three Custom filters setup:-

IP Port = TCP
Direction = Both
Local = All Ports
Remote = Fixed Port
Remote Ports = 44400 - 44408 and also 44450

Microsoft ISA Server 2004

If you have installed ISA Server 2004 and find that Depositit is not backing up automatically for you, you may need to create a new rule with 2 new protocols that specify the ports that Depositit needs to use.

"The sense of offsite backup was reinforced for us over the weekend.

Vandals poured lighter fuel or something in our building's post box and set fire to it..."
